What to Donate

Gently used books - no broken spines, missing pages, highlighting/notes on pages or damaged/yellowed books please!

Books only - we can NOT accept magazines, CDs, DVDs, video games, or audiobooks

Not all books - we can NOT accept text books, reference books, encyclopedias, or outdated computer books

Book Donation Process

DONATE BOOKS                                  

at our Citadel Mall location

Hours: Monday – Friday, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Donation process:

  1. Donation hours are Monday-Friday 10am-2pm

  2. Small donations (1-2 bags/boxes) can be left in the donation bin located at the front of the store

  3. Large donations - Please come to Receiving Area C (back of the Citadel Mall between Belk and Target)

    -Upon arrival please call 843-647-1289 for volunteer assistance

  4. Please do not leave book donations unattended in any area of the Citadel Mall (other than the donation bin)- this is a Fire Code violation, poses a safety risk and could result in fines/penalties against Charleston Friends of the Library

  5. We will expand donation opportunities once we are fully operational

Large (3+ boxes) require an appointment. See instructions.

Not all library branches can accept book donations. Please contact your branch to see if you can donate there.

Ask for a receipt from our store if you will claim a tax deduction for your book donation.

SMALL DONATIONS                                 

-less than 3 boxes of books 

Bring 1-3 boxes of books directly to our store in the Citadel Mall, Mon - Fri from 10 am to 2 pm.

Outside of these hours, please drop off books in the small Donation Bin at the front of the store.

LARGE DONATIONS                                 

-more than 3 boxes of books 

Large donations must be scheduled so a volunteer is available to receive them.

Large donations are ONLY accepted at our back entrance at Receiving Area C. Upon arrival at your scheduled time, PLEASE CALL 843-647-1289 (we cannot hear you knock on the door!)

Please DO NOT leave items outside. They will be thrown away by the Mall.
